Moving Halifax Forward Together

WHY LINDA

My service as councillor of District 9 has always been to make the district stronger and more community-focused. Having the ability to work with my residents to introduce broad initiatives, such as the adoption of pedestrian count down signals at traffic lights throughout HRM, and the day-to-day tasks of maintaining and beautifying our communities, is what keeps me motivated.  My track record speaks for itself: I take every issue seriously and have always consulted with my residents.

Good Councillors work around the clock to improve their districts. None of us have all of the answers, which is why I am quick to call upon my residents and expertise outside my district or province to find solutions. My advocacy policy is straight-forward: when policy threatens to affect district 9, I fight tirelessly to represent the district’s best interests. And when HRM debates issues I feel passionate about, such as preserving the rich history of our city and providing our residents with affordable housing, you will find me front and centre fighting for you and our great city.

Below are some previous and current projects and initiatives I have helped champion in our district:

  • Spearheading the Urban Forest Master Plan
  • Adoption of Pedestrian Count Down Signals at traffic lights
  • Obtaining sidewalk snow clearing on all main arterial, bus routes and residential streets
  • Developing policy to ensure no smoking in HRM outdoor parks, beaches and sports fields where children may be present
  • Championing a blasting bylaw which provides significantly more protection for residents and environment
  • Seeking active transportation improvements including convincing Council to purchase the former CN Rail Line for the Chain of Lakes Trails and initiating connections to other communities
  • Applying for and receiving National Historic Site status for various historic sites in the district and successfully receiving a $1 million federal grant for restoration of the Memorial Tower at the Dingle.

While I address issues that affect residents throughout HRM, at the same time I work with residents to address individual concerns and continue to identify and make improvements throughout our communities.

Every idea or concern I receive is important, and when the situation calls for it, I am quick to engage expertise outside our district and province.

This website is more than a communication link between me and my residents. Please take advantage of the resources and information provided, and use it to review the work I have done and raise more questions which will allow me to be a stronger representative on your behalf.

This district has been my home for almost 50 years. I cherish everything about it and will continually strive to improve the quality of life in our communities.

Thank you,

Linda Mosher
Halifax Councillor, District 9

ABOUT LINDA

Currently I am the Halifax Regional Councillor for District 9 Halifax West Armdale. In the October municipal election I will be a candidate for District 9 and I respectfully ask for your continued support.

When I was first elected to council in 2000, I left my career in medical sales, marketing and health care education to dedicate my efforts as a full-time councillor.

My post-secondary education includes a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and Certificate in Municipal Governing (Dalhousie University); both of which I have put to use in serving my residents. I have deep roots here and my husband, Graeme, and I reside in the Armdale portion of our district.

"During my four terms on Council I have demonstrated that I am a Councillor who listens to you, takes action on your behalf, and gets results."
  • Attended John W. MacLeod Elementary, Cunard Junior High, and J. L. Ilsley High Schools. Post-secondary education: Secretarial Diploma, Medical Accreditation; Bachelor of Commerce Degree, and Certificate in Municipal Government, both from Dalhousie University
  • Sixteen years sales and marketing experience primarily in the health care industry. In my last position as Senior Therapeutic Specialist, I managed and implemented health care boards and initiatives
  • Upon election to Municipal Council I left my career to devote my efforts full-time to represent my residents and district. The new district is significantly larger and requires significant commitment and I will continue to serve as your full-time representative
  • Active in community sports and hold a third degree black belt in Taekwondo and have been a volunteer instructor and coach
  • I have served on a myriad of committees in order to fully understand municipal government and to knowledgeably represent residents. I currently serve on the Audit & Finance Standing Committee (Chair), Auditor General hiring subcommittee, Executive Standing Committee and Chief Administrative Officer hiring subcommittee, Transportation Standing Committee, Past-Chair Halifax Board of Police Commissioners, and member of Halifax & West Community Council. I am Halifax Regional Council’s representative on the Diverse Voices for Change Federal diversity committee. I also volunteer on community committees, serving on the Quinpool Road Mainstreet District Association, the Spryfield & District Business Improvement District, the Chain of Lakes Trail Association (and capital sub-committee), and the Spryfield Lion’s Rink and Recreation Society
  • I have a common sense approach to problem solving and getting things done. I not only respond to resident requests but research ways to improve policy and practice to benefit residents throughout our city
