Bayers Westwood

The Bayers Westwood area is a diverse community located in the heart of District 9.  Bayers Westwood has a reputation for being a close knit community with a strong sense of family.  There are many dedicated volunteers who enhance the sense of community and teamwork.  In the summertime, you can find many events aimed at strengthening the community and bringing neighbours together.  Some recent projects in Bayers Westwood include:

  • New soccer field at Westwood Park
  • New playground and covered picnic area based on feedback from public consultation
  • Improvements to basketball court
  • Three mini community libraries
  • Convinced staff not to retrofit the St. Andrew’s Centre but replace it with new multi-million dollar facility
  • Assisted with community garden
  • Worked on public safety with community and Community Response Officer with the Halifax Regional Police.
  • Installed benches and other community improvements
  • Based on resident requests, obtained $150,000 funding for splash pad to be installed late summer 2016

Some goals for the next four years:

  • Work with the community to establish an urban orchard
  • Continue with community volunteers to assist in the next phases of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Community Garden
  • Build a new St. Andrew’s Centre and ensure design is based on feedback from residents
